About Us
I want to share with you why I m so passionate about this Shaklee, about the company, the standards and philosophy.
Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee born in 1894, diagnosed with tuberculosis from birth. Doctor predicted he wouldn't live past 8 years.
The family moved from the soot and smoke of the Carlisle coal mines to northern Iowa. They believed the only treatment for tuberculosis was good food, fresh air, and lots of rest.
Shaklee was influenced by Bernarr MacFadden's teaching that "drugs often mask the symptom, without curing the disease.".
From his finding by years of observing nature, he wanted to treat people on a natural basis.
While at Palmer School of Chiropractic he observe the patients who are undernourished and overfed and he believed poor nutrition contribute cause of disease.
He became more interested in the field of nutrition.
In his search for the "life force" in food, in 1915 Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee set out to formulate "Shaklee's Vitalized Minerals" which later presented as "vitamins".
In 1956, the Shaklee Company was born.
Every potential customer would have to be educated before he would become a customer.
Dr. Shaklee told his sons, "We'll teach some and they'll teach others".
The rest is history.
When everybody else was celebrating plastic and synthetic materials, Shaklee turned to nature â finding the purest natural ingredients for vitamins and made the first biodegradable household cleaners.
Today, Shaklee is international and still operates on the philosophy that Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee implemented when it opened its doors years ago that Living in harmony with nature fueled an ongoing movement to help people live happier and healthier.
He is a true visionary and man before his time!
Shaklee is now the number one natural nutrition company in the U.S.

History
Founding
Forrest C. Shaklee (1894–1985), a chiropractor and nutritionist based in his home state of Iowa, and later in Oakland, California, created the first vitamin in the United States labeled "Shaklee's Vitalized Minerals" in 1915. In 1956, Shaklee founded the Shaklee Corporation with his two sons to manufacture nutritional supplements. Shaklee chose the multi-level marketing business model to market their product. Starting in 1956, Shaklee began marketing organic, biodegradablecleaning products.
Expansion, divestiture, changes of ownership
Shaklee Corporation was a publicly traded company in the late 1970s and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1980, the firm relocated its headquarters from an office complex on the Emeryville marina to a state-of-the-art skyscraper in downtown San Francisco's Financial District. In 1982, Shaklee became a Fortune 500 Company. The corporation began to diversify in November 1986 when it purchased the Bear Creek Corporation, a direct marketing company best known for its Harry and David Fruit-of-the-Month Club operation, from RJR Nabisco for $123 million. In February 1989, Shaklee sold its 78 percent interest in Shaklee Japan to the Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Company for $350 million, while maintaining its licensing agreement and continuing to collect royalty payments from the Japanese operations.
In March 1989, Shaklee Corporation received an unsolicited acquisition proposal from a group led by Irwin L. Jacobs, the Minneapolisfinancier known also by his nickname "Irv the Liquidator". It was a favorite saying of our founder, Forrest C. Shaklee. His philosophy of `Living in Harmony with Nature' was ahead of its time when he conceived it, and, since Shaklee Corporation was founded in 1956, his extraordinary foresight has been proven again and again. Living in Harmony with Nature means bringing all aspects of life into balance; a balance that is deeply satisfying and promotes a healthy experience of being fully human and fully engaged with life. It is the cornerstone of our philosophy. To that end, Shaklee has developed innovative programs and forged lasting partnerships that have made the company an industry leader for over forty years. Shaklee, a veteran of turn-of-the-century tent shows who became a nutritionist and chiropractor before founding his food production and sales firm with his two sons, was 91. He died Sunday in a Castro Valley, Calif. hospital. Although he had nominally retired several years ago, he remained a force in Shaklee Corp., contributing his “thoughtmanships” to the company magazine read by the more than 100,000 people who comprise an international sales network. A youthful disciple of such colorful carnival characters as weightlifter and food faddist Bernarr MacFadden and the hypnotist Santinelli, Shaklee became a film distributor and then a chiropractor who once entered a 50-foot replica of a spinal cord in a parade in Iowa. Naysayer of Negativism He numbered Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone and Henry Ford among his friends and established an early reputation as a flamboyant nutritionist. He also was a much-in-demand lecturer as a naysayer of negativism (“The trouble with most people is that they emulate the humble sheep. . . .”) He was over age 60 when he and sons Forrest Jr., an insurance salesman, and Raleigh, an accountant, began producing in 1956 such exotic food supplements as Pro-Lecin, a protein and lecithin supplement, and Vita-Lea, a vegetable compound. Their timing could not have been better for the health food faddism that was to sweep the country in the 1960s was beginning to surface in California. (The Shaklees’ first food manufacturing effort was in the basement of their Oakland home.) The religious-like zeal that was to mark the Shaklees’ enterprises surfaced along with the initial orders. Dealers were encouraged to also be hosts and invite friends and neighbors to home parties where they were shown how the Shaklee products could improve both phys Shaklee Corporation History
