In 2014, Obinim was seen on television stepping on the belly of a woman in a "deliverance" This led the Amnesty International in Ghana to call for his prosecution for assault.

Daniel Obinim has made several public controversial declarations. He declared he was an angel of God, which led to the name "Angel Obinim" given to him by his church. He also seemed to have conjured a passport for a church member who lost his. In 2016, he told his church he could transform himself and others into objects and animals. Jon Benjamin, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, ridiculed him for these claims over Twitter.

2016 flogging case

Obinim, in August 2016, publicly flogged two teenagers, one of whom was pregnant, on live television, accusing them of fornicating and conspiring to abort a pregnancy, leading to public outcry, after the video also went viral on social media. Ghana's Minister of Gender, Children, and Social ProtectionNana Oye Lithur herself led a campaign for his arrest, by lodging a complaint to the Ghana Police Service Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU). He was subsequently arrested.

Angel Obinim was born on 29th August 1977 at Abuakwa Sepaase to Agya Obinim and Mama Abena. He’s the 4th out of 6 children. The magician pastor had both his primary and JHS education in his hometown.

After completing JHS, he was not able to further his education to the secondary level as they was no money at home hence he started his pastoral ministry by preaching at the market centres and in the streets.

Angel Obinim once revealed that he always wanted to become a footballer when he was a child although he loved God very much, he bused to play in the same team with another admired man of God in the country, Rev Owusu Bempah.

After preaching the world of Go at public places for a couple of years, he began his “International God’s Way Church” in a school classroom with less than 10 members but with the firmness of purpose of becoming a globally acclaimed pastor, he didn’t give up on his dreams.

In the early 2000s, he was able to acquire land at Kenyase Bosore to start the building of his Church. With the favour of God on his side, his denomination became a mega Church in Ghana just after 4 years of starting his professional career in the Lord’s ministry.
