Hemography is the process whereby blood from the stigmata or bloody sweat is miraculously formed into christian writing, images, and symbols upon hankerchiefs, bandages etc., presumably through Divine intervention. As blood from a mystic bearing the stigmata is symbolic of Jesus' Passion, the images, writings and symbols themselves often symbolise the Passion and other mysteries of the christian faith, especially also the Eucharist, as seen in the accompanying photographs in this article.

At the beginning of this investigation I must confess that I was very skeptical towards this phenomenon because I have only found its presence in the lives of two alleged mystics, Natuzza Evolo and Blessed Elena Aiello, and in the latter it appears to have only occurred on one occasion, when after some blood from her stigmata accidentally splattered onto the wall next to her bed, a miraculous image of Jesus suddenly appeared on the wall, formed from the blood itself, and remained there for many months.

For sure, the authenticity of the hemographic phenomenon cannot be easily dismissed or discounted simply because this particular alleged mystical phenomenon cannot be documented in a wide range of persons, especially since in the case of Natuzza, we have hemographies occurring on literally many hundreds of occasions over the course of decades, and witnessed by a variety of scientific, medical and religious professionals, along with countless laypersons. Then too, in Natuzza we have a person of our modern age (died ) who has been studied and scrutinized by countless persons over the course of literally 75 years for the investigation of the variety of mystical phenomena which she is said to posess, yet she remains quite highly regarded amongst the Italian people from all spectrums of soc

She has multiple charisms: the charism of knowledge, bilocation, haemographies. She speaks languages she does not know, receives the stigmata and around her unexplained healings occur. Natuzza receives messages from Jesus and Our Lady. Mary asks her to build a shrine, which has become the foundation "Immaculate Heart of Mary, Refuge of Souls".
Natuzza also creates cenacles of prayer, which flourish all over the world. She never stops thinking about young people: she welcomes them, helps them and loves them. They take the path of faith in Jesus, a path of true freedom and happiness.
The sick and the poor also have a great place in her heart. She has many spiritual children. She is also an exemplary mother for her own children who thank and praise her. She is always present for them.
This book is the first complete biography of Natuzza Evolo. The author, Luciano Regolo, an experienced journalist and writer, has been with her for thirty years. He has collected many moving testimonies.

    And Natuzza Evolo is a great place to start talking about mysterious happenings here in the deep south.

    &#;Mamma&#; Natuzza was a Calabrian mystic who acted as a medium and healer, showed evidence of stigmata, and could &#;bi-locate&#; &#; be in two different places at once. She is also connected with &#;hemography,&#; which is when blood stains miraculously transform into symbols, shapes, and even words, particularly Christian ones like crosses.

    Although she&#;s relatively unknown internationally, Italians have been fascinated by Natuzza for generations as she has been a popular subject of books and various Italian television programs.

    After Natuzza passed away on All Saints&#; Day in , about 30, people traveled from all over Italy and beyond for her funeral in rural Calabria. One-hundred priests and six Italian bishops were also in attendance.

    The Early Life of Natuzza Evolo

    Natuzza was born in in Paravati, a tiny hamlet near Mileto in Calabria. Her given name is Fortunata, from which the diminutive &#;Natuzza&#; comes. Natuzza&#;s father had left for Argentina a few months before she was born, and he never returned, leaving Natuzza&#;s mother alone to care for her newborn as well as her other children.

    Natuzza never learned to read or write and helped support her mother and siblings by working for local families. She allegedly began having her first visions as a small child &#; Jesus, it is said, appeared to her as a boy who played with her and one of her brothers &#; but her brushes with the dead didn&#;t become popular knowledge around town until she began experiencing them as a young teen at work.
