(me diving in 1975)

In my last post, I mentioned that I made much scuba diving in the past. Versions Célestes -one of the very few magical writers I have ever read, still don’t know if IT is a he or a she though  🙂  ) wrote in the comments thread

“… would like to read about your scuba diving experiences. All those feelings and sensations…”

I decided to jump on this occasion to tell you about my former life under the sea, as it is one of the most exciting times of my past. Shortly: I was totally addicted to diving and spent 2 summers under the sea, around the years 1975/1976.  I was down there every morning, every afternoon, and even in the night sometimes!

I was a mathematics/physics student in Germany at that time, and I had had the immense luck that a physics student, who spent  his holidays as a diving teacher, in Spain and in Thailand, had a sweet tooth (no, not a sharks’ tooth!) for me. Needless to say that I was allowed to dive in Spain as much as I wanted, for free. Of course, as a student, I could have never offered it to myself as a single dive already cost a lot of money.

In these 2 summers, I made about 300 dives if I remember well. The learning phase was short, I  was used to water since I was a baby and felt extremely comfortable in that element, even deep under the surface. In fact, I will find out, with each new dive,  the deeper the better!  Much better than on the earth’s surface anyway! One of the reasons being that at that time I was quite a wild thing, and I especially hated to speak, or at least I hated the mundane conversations (I haven’t changed much on this point, I must admit, but I am more ready to do compromises…). The language we used underwater, with the hand signs, was totally adapted to the situations and to my character. No superficial or useless or empty words, no lies,  I loved it!

As I said, I spent all my time under water. And while I was under water I learnt very

We Urso Majors follow Tinkers amazing teddy bear page. She helps all poor bears who have been abandoned and broken by lovingly mending them and helping them find happy new homes. All proceeds made rehoming the bears goes to Asthma UK.

A few weeks ago Tinker announced a competition, it said

‘’enter the pretty knitty teddy bear competition. Knitted or crocheted teddy bears’’.

This was our competition entry.

“Hello teddy bear friends, I am Fluffle telling the story and Typo my little brother working the big computer (See our picture). We would like to enter our beary special brother Cinco into the knitted/crochet bear competition. One day during lockdown a box arrived from the supermarket with our weekly honey. It had on it a picture of this cute little bear but in the box was just wool and instructions.

We watched and waited as our mum started to work with the wool and funny sticks, this bear began to appear and disappear and appear and disappear, 5 times this happened, (along with some naughty words) until finally we saw a bear, hence when we were telling Auntie Miki in Spain he became our Cinco.

Cinco now complete and looks nothing like the bear on the box, lives ‘on the commode’ with many brothers and sisters in Auntie Miki’s bedroom. We thought this was hilarious when she first said it, one of those things lost in translation! We embrace diversity in our family and our Cinco is loved so much by us all.

Find out what happened later!

    Salaam waylay kum Maliha!

I want to say a big thank you to you for your wonderful comment. Your words go directly to my heart, everything you write means so much to me. It is amazing how you seem to have understood ME just looking at my paintings… yes, you are right, I deeply enjoy painting and life and nothing can stop me. In fact I always went my way exactly as I wanted to, and I never let myself be dictated to by art teachers and books on how I should paint. They have good things to teach though, so I always take from them what seems compatible with my character and my freedom, nothing else!

2 weeks ago I was contacted by a young girl from the USA who wants to make an art poster about me for her French classes. She made a little interview with me. She wanted to know if I have some advice for young artists and I answered:

“…I think it is very important to have a certain inner freedom to make “good art”, meaning art which the public AND the artist themself both love. I think we should never doubt and have the courage to follow our inner impulses, our desires, our madnesses too! One must not be scared to be different and even to go against the stream. But one shouldn’t also paint only with the intention to be different, to shock, to contradict. One should paint with the most intellectual and artistic honesty possible….”

I hope you are enjoying your art as I do. Please, don’t hesitate to contact me if you need some advice, some opinion, motivation, courage… not only I am a hard worker myself, but I am good too at motivating other people work! Anyway I would love to see some of your work. One who is able to write with such passion can only be a great artist!

Looking forward to hear from you
