    Vanessa Bayer (born November 14, ) is an American actress and comedian. She was a cast member on the NBCsketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from to , for which she was nominated for an Emmy. She co-created, co-executive produced, and had the lead role in the Showtime comedy I Love That for You, loosely based on her experience as a survivor of childhood leukemia. She has appeared in such films as Trainwreck (), Office Christmas Party (), Carrie Pilby (), Ibiza () and Wander Darkly ().

    Early life and education

    Bayer was born on November 14, , in Orange, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, and raised in nearby Moreland Hills. She is the daughter of Carolyn and Todd Bayer. Bayer's family is Jewish, and she has stated that her Jewish upbringing "influenced [her] life and comedy". She has a brother, Jonah, who is a music journalist and the guitarist of the punk supergroup United Nations.

    At age 15, Bayer was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). She stated that while battling the disease, she discovered the meaning of comic relief. "I don't know if it made me funnier, but it was so amazing, how it made everything be O.K.", she said.

    Bayer is a graduate of Orange High School. In , she graduated from the Annenberg School for Communication of the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in communication and French.

    While attending college, she interned on the television shows Sesame Street and Late Night with Conan O'Brien and participated in the cast of Bloomers, an all-female musical and sketch comedy troupe.

    Rolling Stone called Vanessa Bayer the secret weapon of "Saturday Night Live" (NBC ). The pixie-ish comedian proved herself a hilarious and versatile actress during her tenure on the show, masterfully impersonating such high-profile celebrities as Miley Cyrus and Hillary Clinton while also creating such oddball characters as the leader of a pair of ex-porn stars (alongside Cecily Strong) making amateurish commercials for luxury products. Vanessa Bayer was born in Orange, Ohio on November 14th, She was diagnosed with leukemia at a young age and struggled with the disease throughout her childhood. Her senior class at Orange High School voted her "Most Likely to Succeed" and "Best Smile." Bayer attended the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in communications and French and graduating in While at college, she interned for "Sesame Street" (PBS ) and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" (NBC ). Bayer then became a part of the Chicago improv scene, studying and performing improvisational comedy at ImprovOlympic (alongside future "SNL" co-worker Paul Britain), Second City, and Annoyance Theater. At Second City, she performed as part of the all Jewish cast of "Jewsical: The Musical," a parody of Jewish life that perhaps inspired Bayer's most famous "SNL" character, Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy. Bayer was hired at "Saturday Night Live" in September of During this time she also appeared as an incredibly boring date on "The Mindy Project" (Fox/Hulu ) and as the voice of a flight attendant in the animated children's hit "Despicable Me 2" (). Bayer made a bigger impression in supporting roles in the Amy Schumer hit "Trainwreck" (), quirky indie comedy "Carrie Pilby" () and broad farce "Office Christmas Party" ().
