J. Eugene Jackson was born on March 9, , in Crisfield, Maryland to the late Roland Brown and

Pearline Jackson. Eugene took flight on Tuesday, October 15, in Wilmington, Delaware.

J. Eugene Jackson aka Gene and RIP…received education at Carter G. Woodson School in Crisfield,

Maryland. Gene relocated to Wilmington, Delaware with his great aunt, the late Garnett Allen and

completed his education at Wilmington High School.

Gene served a short stint in the Army, after which he returned to Delaware where he gained

employment at Chrysler, where he worked for over 25 years. Gene, aka RIP, was a devoted member of

the Thunder Guards for over 45 years.

Gene spent the majority of his life residing on the block of Vandever Avenue and was best known

for his ability to dance, replicating James Brown! He was very good! One of the best in Delaware! Gene

was a man of many God given gifts. He could build a motorcycle from the ground up, was masterful in

wood carving, and skilled in oil paintings! He was also known for his big smile with that gleaming gold

tooth and his passion for fashion! Gene stayed sharp and dressed to the nines!!!

Gene was Pearline’s first born of four children and is preceded in death by father, Roland Brown;

mother, Pearline (Jackson) Lewis; his beloved brother, Louis C. Jackson, Sr and the late Louis Jackson, Jr..

He is survived by three sisters, Regina (Parker) Lyon, Odette Parker (Wayne), Ravene H. Brown; and two

brothers, Roland H. Brown, Jr. and Carlton Brown.

Gene has two biological children, Jacqueline (Jackie) Williams – (Chauncy Williams) Salisbury, MD;

Eugene L. Ward – Wilmington, De; Eight grandchildren: Shamekia, RaShana, Denisha, Tashia, Keonte,

Nefertiti aka Saahmad, Bellashia and Shykira;

Sixteen great grandchildren: Yatoria, Jah’Zion, Anthony, Brandon, Kaliyah, KaRontez, KyShon, K’mora,

Jackson soon noticed their musical talent and began acting as manager for The Jackson 5. The group enjoyed success but tensions eventually led to them firing Jackson. Son Michael later accused him of abuse, which some siblings confirmed and others denied. Jackson died on June 27, , after battling cancer.

Early Life

Born Joseph Walter Jackson on July 26, , in Fountain Hill, Arkansas, as the eldest of five children. His father, Samuel Jackson, was a high school teacher and his mother, Crystal Lee King, was a housewife. The couple split up when Jackson was He moved with his father to Oakland, California, while his mother moved to East Chicago, Indiana. Jackson lived a lonely childhood, and had few friends. When he turned 18, he moved to Indiana to live near his mother.

While in Indiana, he began pursuing his dreams of becoming a boxer. He found success with the Golden Gloves, and was preparing for a professional athletic career when he met year-old Katherine Scruse. He was already married at the time, but had his union quickly annuled to be with Katherine.

Starting a Family

The couple married on November 5, , and moved into a two-bedroom house in Gary, Indiana. The Jackson's first child, Maureen Reilette "Rebbie" Jackson was born six months later on May 29, Joseph decided to leave his life as a boxer in order to support his family. He began work as a full-time crane operator for U.S. Steel. In the meantime, his wife Katherine tended to their growing family; the Jacksons would go on to have ten children (son Brandon Jackson died at birth).
