  • Amy Schumer issues rallying call after her ‘arrest’ at Brett Kavanaugh protest

Amy Schumer has issued a rallying call after she was reportedly arrested during a protest against Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

The comedian and actress is said to have been detained alongside the model Emily Ratajkowski during demonstrations in Washington DC on Thursday.

Mr Kavanaugh, Donald Trump’s nominee for a place on the highest court in the United States, is accused of sexual assault while in high school. He denies the allegations.

After his nomination cleared a key hurdle in the Senate on Friday, Schumer shared pictures from the rally showing protesters holding placards reading slogans such as, “I am a survivor and I vote” and “don’t betray women”.

The post was captioned: “Beautiful 36 hours with the sisters I came with and the ones that I met. Shout out to the capitol police for keeping it real. It’s fun to show up.

“May I recommend trying it on whatever scale you feel comfortable? (Cue trolls making jokes about the word scale, loving the fat jokes and memes! Nothing says ‘I feel powerless’ like insulting a woman’s appearance).”

The year-old American star then urged her fans to prepare for November’s midterm elections, with polls showing a majority of Americans are now viewing them as the most important in a generation.

Schumer said: “Midterms. Let’s go! Find the candidates you want to support and spread the word! Donate. Volunteer. It feels good.

“We are all gonna die one day so why not live how you truly believe. No matter where you are from. Once you’re honest you’ll feel so much better. Believe me. #beabletosleepatnight #showup.”

Earlier, Schumer shared a joke on Instagram.

She posted a picture of herself at the march, along with the caption: “Anyone need a date to any Montana weddings tomorrow? I’m fun at a wedding.”

Republican senator Steve Daines had earlier promised to walk his daughter down the aisle for her wedding in Montana in Satur

The confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has been marked by protests and arrests, according to multiple reports, as critics and detractors continue to try and disrupt the proceedings tied to President Trump’s pick to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Wednesday marked the second day of Kavanaugh’s hearing. Just after Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, opened the day’s session, a protester began shouting, “Sham president, sham justice!” from the back of the room, Fox News reports.

The outbursts continued, with Grassley intermittently acknowledging them.

“Let these people have their free speech and interrupt the other million people listening,” he said, as quoted by Fox News.

It was a continuation of Tuesday’s escapades, as 70 were arrested in connection with protesting the hearing’s first day and “unlawful demonstration activities,” according to CNN. One of those arrested was “Covert Affairs” actress Piper Perabo, who, USA Today reports, posted a video of herself being led out of the hearing by police.

"I was just arrested for civil disobedience in the Kavanaugh hearings," Perabo tweeted.

Capitol Police said in a statement on Tuesday that they “responded to numerous incidents of unlawful demonstration activities within the Senate Office Buildings today that were associated with the first day of hearings held by the Senate Judiciary Committee.”

Meanwhile, outside the court on Tuesday, a group of protesters remained silent in the halls of the Hart Senate Office building, their actions and outfits a nod to the Hulu drama “The Handmaid’s Tale,” according to CNN.

In the hearing itself, Kavanaugh made waves on Wednesday after he refused to say whether or not a sitting president should be forced to respond to a subpoena, ABC News reports.

The day prior, Fred Guttenberg, the father of Jamie Guttenberg, who was killed in the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School earlier t
