Pandita Shubhada Paradkar is now quite well known to the music lovers throughout the country and abroad also. Both the critics and the Rasiks remember her for Aggressive Gayaki and proficiency in the Layakari which is rarely seen in the female vocalists today.
While her formal music instructions include a M.A. (Music) degree from S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai, she has also had the benefit of individual tuitions from different Gurus at different points of her career. Born on 21st September, in Baroda, she began her music training in Baroda by Pt. R.D. Potdar (Kirana Gharana) and Pt. Madhusudan Joshi (Agra Gharana). Subsequently, the famous violinist and vocalist Late Pt. Gajananrao Joshi trained and imparted her Gwalior and Jaipur Gharana styles. Pt. Babanrao Haldankar (Agra Gharana) and Smt. Padmavati Shaligram Gokhale (Jaipur Gharana) have also trained her for long time. She therefore possesses the unique distinction of learning under all the four major Gharanas of Hindustani Classical Music, which has made her distinctive in the present generation of the artistes.
She is regularly guiding senior students in S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai and Lalit Kala Kendra at Pune University through her workshops and Lecture Demonstrations. She has guided students in Bangkok and given performances at different places in Thailand including Bangkok.
Apart from being a regular performer over Radio (Mumbai) and different channels on Television she has performed throughout the country as well as abroad. Her performances at places like Bangko Music runs in the veins of the Goans and that rhythm is in their Forte. Music tradition of Goa developed in the holy and spiritual environment of the temples of Goa. The soil has fragrance of the music. Every person born in this land has the inborn mind deeply engrossed in the musical notes. Every artiste has made efforts in the enrichment of the Hindusthani classical music. According to the Goan writer Gopal Krishna Bhobe Mohanabai Palkar was the dancer come singer of the great callibre who was in the service of the "Peshwas" during the eighteen centuary. Murarba Pednekar was the first Goan who left Goa to pursue further studies in North Indian classical music, completing it he came to Goa with a traditional knowledge of music (Gayakee) and trained number of disciples in Goa. He was not much satisfied with environment for music in Goa at that time. He went to Pune and joined "Pune Gayan Samaj" as a music teacher in "Sangeet Sanjeevani" a book on music written by Murarba in includes notation of various bandishi's and sargam patterns as well as patterns of layakaris. Murarba d a string instrument "Swarashrungar" which is still in the collection of Sardar Abasaheb Mujumdar's Musuem in Pune. Besides a vocalist he was a good Been (Rudraveena) player. The Great Maestro Vithoba Anna Hadap from Malvan (Sindhudurg - Maharashtra) who had received training of Hindusthani classical music from musicians of Gwalior came to Goa with a missionary zeal for development of music in Goa. He trained many disciples in Goa.Saraswatibai Bandodkar was the first Goan women who have learnt classical music in Goa. She was the disciple of Vithoba Anna Hadap. Saraswatibai learnt Drupad, Dhamar, & prabandha from Vithoba Anna. Shanebai Ramnathkar and her daughter also learnt from Vithoba Anna. In the first half of eighteen Century Dattuburva Jambekar was the famous vocalist from Goa as well as Damodar Malpekar from Pernem was the famous Been (Rudraveena) player (Beenkar.) Kedar Naphade, a Hindustani Classical Instrumentalist, is one of today's leading exponents of the art of Harmonium Solo and Accompaniment. Acclaimed as a performer par excellence, brilliant composer and revered Guru, Pandit Tulsidas Borkar is one of the most outstanding musicians of India. A leading name in the field of Harmonium playing. Tulsidasji had his initial lessons in Music from his mother Jaishreebai Borkar. Later he started learning the Harmonium from Vishnupant Vashta and at the same time had the opportunity of being guided by Chhota Gandharva, the eminent vocalist, on the art of Harmonium accompaniment. However a major part of his training in Harmonium was between and under the guidance of the Harmonium maestro Pandit Madhukar Pendnekar, better known as P. Madhukar. In his endeavor to acquire knowledge he had the opportunity of receiving valuable guidance from some veteran vocalists like Pandit , Pandit , Pandit Rajaram Shukla, Pandit Murli Manohar Shukla, Pandit Ram Marathe, and instrumentalists like Pandit Devendra Murdeshwar (Flute) and Pandit (Violin) from whom he got to learn the intricacies of the Khayal tradition of North Indian (Hindustani) Classical Music. Tulsidas Borkar gained initial fame as an Organ player in Marathi theatrical music. He accompanied several leading actor-singers of Marathi theatre between the years and He also had the privilege of accompanying many stalwarts in the field of Hindustani Classical Music like Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur, Pandit Firoj Dastur, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Vidushi Padmavati Shaligram-Gokhale, Pandit Basavraj Rajguru, Pandit , Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, Pandit Ram Marathe, Vidushi Gangubai Hangal, Vidushi Kishori Amonkar, Vidushi Shobha Gurtu and Dr. Prabha Aatre to name a few. I am hunting for the CD of Padmavati Shaligram-Gokhale that had been
brought out by Makar Records many years ago. Online searches indicate
that Makar has shut shop. I would be very grateful if someone could
point me to any source where it may be available.
